Hope for Haiti: A Spiritual Response to an un/Natural Disaster
Like everyone, we at NY Faith & Justice were devastated by the tragedy that occurred on January 12, 2010 in Haiti. The images and stories that washed over our television screens newspapers and blogs have touched our souls.
Our immediate reaction to this devastation was, “we want to help!”
Our leadership team came together to discern how NY Faith & Justice can be of the greatest help to the people of Haiti and to churches and faith communities throughout New York. Many denominations and organizations are already well positioned to offer effective help in the areas of fund-raising, resource collection, and volunteer services. Yet, as we asked around, we found faith leaders hungry for ways to lead their communities through this disaster in a way that taps into and helps shape their faith.
So, over the past week, we have developed the Hope for Haiti Information Packet.
- “Hope for Haiti” PowerPoint presentation for congregations, adult education classes, small groups, and leadership teams
- One-page Historical Overview of Haiti
- Haiti Reading List
- “Incomprehensible Restlessness” A Personal Testimony (Sample)
- Five trustworthy relief and development organizations
- Haiti Relief Update – January 21, 2010
